Individual health insurance is coverage that you purchase on your own, on anindividual or family basis, as opposed to obtaining through an employer. Individualhealth insurance can be purchased through the exchange, or off-exchange (directly from the health insurance carrier).
Health insurance provided to employees by an employer or by an association to its members is called group coverage. Health insurance you buy on your own—not through an employer or association—is called individual coverage. Those are the basics.
